The work model for the role is: Hybrid
This role is an individual contributor role and will report to the ABB Motion Regional General Counsel for the Americas in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, with a dotted-line to the business leader for Motion – LATAM in Santiago, Chile. The preferred candidate will be based in Mexico City. Other locations in Latin America where the ABB Motion business maintains a staffed office will also be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to work from ABB offices on a regular basis - ordinarily at least two days per week. Some travel (~5-10%), including outside of the successful candidate’s home country, may be required.

This role supports the Motion Business Area LATAM (Mexico, Central America & Caribbean) from Mexico.
Your Role: Own the Challenge
- Act as a Strategic Business Partner: Provide legal support to the Motion Business in the region, maintaining independence while aligning with business goals and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders such as sales, finance, HR, EHS, and supply chain.
- Contract Management and Negotiation: Develop contract strategies, draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements, ensuring alignment with ABB policies and risk management practices, including coordination with the global supply team for subcontract terms.
- Standardization and Implementation: Collaborate with global Legal Counsels to create and implement contract standards, templates, and guidelines across Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
- Training and Legal Guidance: Deliver training and provide ongoing legal advice on a wide range of topics including competition law, data protection (e.g., GDPR), product liability, employment, investigations, and claims management.
- Team Collaboration and Project Support: Actively contribute to the Motion Americas and global Legal & Integrity teams, supporting cross-regional legal initiatives and special projects as needed.
- Law degree from a fully accredited university. Must be eligible to practice law in Mexico and in good standing with the bar, with no disciplinary history in any jurisdiction.
- At least 7 years of post-qualification experience in commercial law, gained in private practice, government, or as in-house counsel. Experience in multinational industrial or technology companies serving sectors such as oil & gas, mining, renewable energy, food & beverage, and similar industries is preferred.
- Full fluency in both Spanish and English is required, with strong communication, presentation, and legal document review skills in both languages.
- Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex contracts and operate effectively in a dynamic, international environment.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities independently under pressure.
- Cross-training, experience, or legal practice eligibility in multiple LATAM or international jurisdictions is highly desirable.
- Experience with project-related contracts, distribution/partner agreements, government contracting, and intellectual property is desired.
- Familiarity with digital law topics such as SaaS, cybersecurity, AI, data protection, and privacy is a plus.
