Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

The Sr. Manager, Employee Relations’ primary responsibility is to lead the Employee Relations function for a 4,000+ employee population within our manufacturing facility. This role will lead a team of 2 direct report Senior ER Specialists and partner closely with HRBP and HR Shared Services to drive ER execution and strategy. This role will work to manage labor and industrial employee relations, monitoring compliance with the Official Mexican Norms as well as General Conditions of Work, Federal Labor Law and other relative Regulations. This position is responsible for developing, interpreting, and recommending program goals and objectives, as well as policies, procedures and courses of action to keep a positive work environment in addition to training & developing a team of specialists.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Employee Relations specialists providing coaching, guidance and feedback
  • Partner closely with site senior leadership to develop robust ER action plans to proactively address labor risk
  • Leverage data and analytics to educate site partners and leaders on complaint and grievance trends to strengthen ER capability
  • Working closely with legal, support the development and refinement of site policies and procedures
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to people leaders to improve ER management processes, conflict resolutions, performance management programs, disciplinary and corrective actions and policy interpretation.
  • Foster and promote ER based on Intuitive' Culture and Values at all levels.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for all ER related matters in Intuitive Mexicali site.
  • Manage the relations with our Law firms (Local and Corp) to respond and resolve legal employee claims, disagreements, misunderstandings or conduct business investigations.
  • Support our efforts to align our ER strategy from Corp to our business priorities and delivers solutions in Mexicali.
  • Collaborate with people leaders and HRBP's to implement corrective and disciplinary actions, performance counseling, policy violation and PIP's to employees with behaviors or performance issues and recommend appropriate documentation.
  • Oversee the investigation of (or consult or partner on investigations, as appropriate) ER issues, including escalated complaints, employee direct or hotline calls, work environment incidents as unfair business practices, hostile work environment claims, discrimination, harassment, racism, etc., using Intuitive methodology and processes.
  • As needed, serve as facilitator and apply interventions to resolve conflicts between employees due to disagreements, conflicts, or misunderstandings.
  • Response to government agency inspections, charges or notifications.
  • Create and facilitate formal and informal training related to employee relations matters including performance counseling, employment law, equal opportunity and compliance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with HRBP's on developing and reviewing performance management processes for involuntary separations, or transfers requiring strategic risk management solutions, and discipline methods where applicable, while applying Intuitive Culture and values.
  • Ensures that there is alignment between people management strategies and the existing Intuitive values, policies and compliance requirements, updating each as required.
  • Act as legal representative for lawsuits, administrative acts, clarifications and collections before dependencies such as STPS, IMSS, INFONAVIT, FONACOT, MIGRACION, SEMARNAT and other concerned.
  • Conduct investigations related to faults to the Code of Conduct and Ethics of the Organization, presenting the results and action plans to corporate legal department.
  • Maintains a clear and detailed knowledge of the industry trends, best practices, and labor legislation, by building a strong relationship with Industrial and Human Resources Associations as well as local Universities.
  • Partner effectively with other cross-functional teams such as Inclusion & Diversity and Legal & Employee Relations.

Qualifications

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Psychology or related field strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Law, Organizational Development or related field is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience leading an ER function, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • 10+ years HR experience of which 5+ years direct experience focusing on handling ER issues of all levels of complexity
  • Prior experience building and iterating on ER processes
  • Experience in a medical field company is a plus
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of relevant labor laws Mexican Federal Norms and practices.
  • Ability to influence and partner with different levels of the organization to achieve results, including senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach managers to use company best practices for maximum effectiveness.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to listen and provide an independent point of view on people and issues while having the courage and sensitivity to deliver tough messages to leaders and employees professionally and compassionately. Effective influencing and communication skills when recommending and implementing solutions with business partners.
  • Must have ability to work independently and collaboratively; prioritize and complete tasks while working under a deadline in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a disciplined approach to case management and administration.
  • Full bilingual (Spanish and English)
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
