The CE-1 equipment is already installed. Accordingly, the role is no longer focused on covering installation activities; it is focused on operational readiness, including risk assessment, validations, open-item closure, controls, training, and documented readiness for production.
Key Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
- WSR and launch tracking: Regularly review the WSR; update the status of Safety items; identify risks, delays, dependencies, and required decisions; maintain owners and due dates; and promptly escalate blockers that could affect EPT, JOB1, or CE-1 production start-up.
- Production readiness: Coordinate follow-up of Safety actions for new lines, equipment, and processes. Verify that critical controls, machine guarding, stop devices, access controls, signage, and procedures are implemented and validated before operations are released.
- Risk assessment and NOM-030-STPS-2009: Support the update of the occupational safety and health assessment/diagnosis for new lines and processes, including identification of related hazards and risks. Facilitate definition of preventive and corrective measures and, based on the diagnosis and subject to review by the competent Safety and Health lead, support the applicable safety and health program or preventive/corrective action plan. This role does not replace the technical or legal approval of the responsible Safety and Health professional.
- Risk reviews by launch phase: Support risk reviews for equipment and process validations, testing, Manufacturing/Method Changes (MTC), start-up activities, and initial operations. Ensure actions are assigned, documented, and closed before the activity when required.
- EPT / JOB1 readiness: Consolidate and communicate relevant Safety open-item status for WSR reviews and EPT and JOB1 milestones, following the launch team’s defined criteria and schedule. Highlight not-ready conditions and actions that could compromise a safe production start.
- Compliance and action closure: Track CCAR (Corporate Compliance Assessment Review) findings, PROTAG items, punch-list items, and applicable corporate or regulatory actions through closure, retaining objective evidence.
- Cross-functional coordination: Work with Production, Engineering, Quality, MP&L, FPS, and Maintenance to incorporate Safety requirements into work standards, instructions, operator training, and area readiness.
- New program: Help develop and track an updated Safety and Health program for the CE-1 scope, with defined actions, owners, due dates, priorities, and closure evidence. Review progress and recommend updates as conditions change or new risks are identified.
- Communication: Prepare concise status updates on open risks, required decisions, and progress for the Risk Manager and launch stakeholders.
This role increases Safety follow-up capacity during the transition from installed equipment to production operations. It keeps risks and actions visible in the WSR, supports coordination for EPT and JOB1 milestones, contributes to risk assessment and preventive measures for new lines, and helps prevent critical open items from carrying into production start-up or stabilization.
Expected Deliverables
- NOM-030-STPS-2009 safety and health diagnosis for the CE-1 scope (integral or by work area, as applicable), updated to identify hazardous or unsafe physical conditions in facilities, processes, machinery, equipment, tools, transportation, materials, and energy; relevant physical, chemical, and biological agents and their sources; surrounding hazards, where applicable; and applicable occupational safety and health regulatory requirements. The diagnosis should document findings and serve as the basis for the corresponding program or preventive/corrective action plan.
- Updated Safety section of the WSR, including status, risks, owners, and due dates.
- Documented risk assessment / hazard identification for new lines, equipment, and processes, with control actions and follow-up.
- A Safety and Health program or preventive/corrective action plan for the scope, prepared and validated by the appropriate responsible parties.
- Controlled list of Safety open items tied to EPT, JOB1, and production readiness, with closure evidence.
- Evidence of control validation, training, and safe production readiness, in accordance with applicable internal processes.
- Currently enrolled in (or recent graduate of) an Engineering, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health, or related program.
- Basic knowledge of industrial safety principles, risk analysis (JSA/RA), or interest in machine guarding, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene (preferred, not required).
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills; ability to track multiple open items/action logs simultaneously.
- Effective communication and coordination skills to work cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, Quality, MP&L, FPS, and Maintenance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams); familiarity with tracking tools (e.g., action item logs, punch lists) is a plus.
- Availability to be present on the plant floor to support installation, commissioning, and validation activities as needed.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, depending on plant requirements.
- Hands-on experience supporting a manufacturing launch from a Safety and Health perspective.
- Participation in WSR follow-up and coordination of EPT and JOB1 milestones.
- Exposure to risk assessments, validations, machine-safety controls, and corrective-action tracking.
- Cross-functional collaboration with Production, Engineering, Quality, MP&L, FPS, and Maintenance.
